Matt Serra (13-7, 8) was born in East Meadow, New York, U.S. on June 2, 1974. At the age of 23 years on April 1, 1998, he made his professional MMA debut against Khamzat Vitaev, winning the fight via 1st-round submission.
On May 4, 2001, 26-year old Matt Serra made his UFC debut on his 5th professional MMA fight at UFC 31 against a 29-year old Shonie Carter but lost the fight via KO in the 3rd round.
He became the UFC welterweight champion on April 7, 2007 at age 32 on his 16th professional MMA fight at UFC 69 after defeating a 25-year old Georges St-Pierre via 1st-round TKO.
