Iran Barkley (43-19-1, 27) was born in Mott Have, Bronx, New York City, New York, U.S. on May 6, 1960. At the age of 22 years on December 9, 1982, he made his professional boxing debut against Larry Jordan, winning the fight via 2nd-round TKO.
On his 26th career fight at 27 years old, Iran Barkley got a shot at the WBA middleweight titles against Sumbu Kalambay on October 23, 1987 but lost the fight via 15-round unanimous decision.
He became a middleweight world champion (WBC) on June 6, 1988 at the age of 28 years old, on his 29th career fight, after defeating Thomas Hearns via 3rd-round TKO.
He then went on to become world champion at 2 more weight classes, winning the following titles:
Barkley's last fight was a 6th-round TKO loss to Keith McKnight at age 39 on July 31, 1999. He retired on a 6-fight losing streak.
