Juan Manuel Márquez (Dinamita) is a 51-year-old retired Mexican professional boxer. He is a three-weightclass world champion with 6 world-title wins. In a career spanning 20 years, 11 months, and 18 days, Márquez amassed a record of 56-7-1, which includes 40 wins via KO, 4 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2020.
Juan Manuel Márquez was born in Iztacalco, Mexico City, Mexico on August 23, 1973. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on May 29, 1993 against Javier Duran. Márquez lost to Duran via 1st round disqualification. Not a good start!
Márquez got his first shot at a world title at the age of 26 after 30 professional fights. On September 11, 1999 Márquez challenged Freddie Norwood's WBA featherweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on February 1, 2003 at the age of 29 years, after by defeating Manuel Medina, the then-reining IBF featherweight champion, via 7th round TKO. This was his 42nd fight as a professional.
Márquez then went on to successfully conquer the super-featherweight (WBC) and lightweight (The Ring, WBA, WBO) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.
Márquez' last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Mike Alvarado at age 40, on May 17, 2014.
