      Gerrie Coetzee (The Boksburg Bomber) was a South African professional boxer. He was born in Boksburg, East Rand, Gauteng, South Africa on April 8, 1955. He was a heavyweight world champion. Coetzee died on January 12, 2023 at the age of 67 years. His professional boxing career spanned more than 22 years — from 1974 to 1997.

      Coetzee made his professional boxing debut against Chris Roos at the age of 19 on September 14, 1974, defeating Roos via 4 round PTS. He went on to win 21 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 12 wins via stoppage.

      He had his first world title fight at the age of 24 on October 20, 1979 after 22 professional fights, against John Tate for the WBA (vacant) title. He lost to Tate via 15 round unanimous decision.
