Lucas Matthysse (39-5, 36) was born in Trelew, Chubut, Argentina on September 27, 1982. At the age of 21 years on June 4, 2004, he made his professional boxing debut against Leandro Almagro, winning the fight via 2nd-round TKO.
On his 38th career fight at 30 years old, Lucas Matthysse got a shot at the WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring super-lightweight titles against Danny GarcĂa on September 14, 2013 but lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a welterweight world champion (WBA (Regular)) on January 27, 2018 at the age of 35 years old, on his 44th career fight, after defeating Tewa Kiram via 8th-round KO.
Matthysse's last fight was a welterweight (WBA (Regular)) world-title defense against Manny Pacquiao on July 15, 2018. He lost the fight via 7th-round TKO. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
