Ismael Laguna (65-9-1, 37) was born in Colón, Panama on June 28, 1943. At the age of 17 years on August 21, 1960, he made his professional boxing debut against Antonio Morgan, winning the fight via 2nd-round KO.
On his 41st career fight at 21 years old, Laguna became a lightweight world champion on April 10, 1965 after defeating Carlos Ortiz via 15-round majority decision to win the WBA, WBC and The Ring titles.
Laguna's last fight was a lightweight world-title fight against Ken Buchanan for Buchanan's WBA and The Ring titles on September 13, 1971. He lost the fight via 15-round unanimous decision. He retired on a 2-fight losing streak.
