On April 10, 1965 Ismael Laguna fought Carlos Ortiz in a lightweight world-title fight for Ortiz' WBA, WBC and The Ring titles. Laguna was 21 years old and with a record of 39-2 (25), and Ortiz was 28 years old and with a record of 45-4 (18). Laguna won the fight via 15-round majority decision and is crowned the new lightweight world champion.
On March 3, 1970 Ismael Laguna fought Mando Ramos in a lightweight world-title fight for Ramos' WBA, WBC and The Ring titles. Laguna was 26 years old and with a record of 62-6-1 (36), and Ramos was 21 years old and with a record of 28-3 (19). Laguna stopped Mando Ramos via 9th-round TKO and is crowned the new lightweight world champion.
