Edwin Rosario (Chapo) was a Puerto Rican professional boxer. He was born in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico on March 15, 1963. He was a two-weight-class world champion. He died on December 1, 1997 at the age of 34 years. Rosario was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2006. His professional boxing career spanned more than 18 years — from 1979 to 1997.
Rosario made his professional boxing debut against Jorge Ortega at the age of 15 on March 3, 1979, defeating Ortega via 2nd round KO. He went on to win 23 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 20 wins via stoppage.
He had his first world title fight at the age of 20 on May 1, 1983 after 21 professional fights, against José Luis Ramírez for the lightweight WBC (vacant) title. He defeated Ramírez via 12 round unanimous decision to become the lightweight champion of the world.
