Gatti was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2013. His professional boxing career spanned more than 16 years — from 1991 to 2007.
Gatti made his professional boxing debut against Jose Gonzales at the age of 19 on June 10, 1991, defeating Gonzales via 3rd round TKO. He went on to win 5 more consecutive fights after the debut, which included 4 wins via stoppage.
He had his first world title fight at the age of 23 on December 15, 1995 after 24 professional fights, against Tracy Harris Patterson for the super-featherweight IBF title. He defeated Patterson via 12 round unanimous decision to become the super-featherweight champion of the world.
