Juan Urango (24-3-1, 19) was born in Montería, Córdoba, Colombia on October 4, 1980. At the age of 21 years on April 30, 2002, he made his professional boxing debut against Efrain Sotomayor, winning the fight via 2nd-round KO.
On his 18th career fight at 25 years old, Urango became a super-lightweight world champion on June 30, 2006 after defeating Naoufel Ben Rabah via 12-round unanimous decision to win the vacant IBF title.
