Diego Corrales (40-5, 33) was born in Columbia, South Carolina, U.S. on August 25, 1977. At the age of 18 years on March 19, 1996, he made his professional boxing debut against Everett Barry, winning the fight via 3rd-round TKO.
On his 29th career fight at 22 years old, Corrales became a super-featherweight world champion on October 23, 1999 after defeating Robert Garcia via 7th-round TKO to win the IBF title.
He then went on to become world champion at the lightweight weight class as well, winning the WBO, WBC and The Ring titles against Acelino Freitas via 10th-round TKO on August 7, 2004.
Corrales' last fight was a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Joshua Clottey at age 29 on April 7, 2007. He was on a 3-fight losing streak by his last fight.
