Rubén Olivares (89-13-3, 79) was born in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico on January 14, 1947. At the age of 17 years on January 4, 1965, he made his professional boxing debut against Isidro Sotelo, winning the fight via 1st-round KO.

On his 54th career fight at 22 years old, Olivares became a bantamweight world champion on August 22, 1969 after defeating Lionel Rose via 5th-round KO to win the WBA, WBC and The Ring titles.

He then went on to become world champion at the featherweight weight class as well, winning the WBA and WBC titles against Chucho Castillo via 15-round unanimous decision on April 2, 1971.
