On December 17, 2011 Yuya Shirai met Taisuke Okuno in a welterweight (DEEP Championship) title defense fight. Shirai was 31 years old and with a record of 22-10-1 (9), and Okuno was 34 years old and with a record of 11-5-2 (9). Shirai won the fight via 3-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
On January 24, 2010 Yuya Shirai fought Seichi Ikemoto in a welterweight title fight for Ikemoto's DEEP Championship title. Shirai was 29 years old and with a record of 18-8-1 (8), and Ikemoto was 34 years old and with a record of 18-16-5 (11). Shirai won the fight via 3-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new DEEP welterweight champion.
