On May 29, 1999 Caol Uno fought Rumina Sato in a welterweight title fight for Sato's Shooto World title. Uno was 24 years old and with a record of 9-2-1 (5), and Sato was 25 years old and with a record of 13-2-1 (10). Uno stopped Rumina Sato via 3rd-round submission and is crowned the new welterweight world champion.
On June 29, 2001 Caol Uno faced off against Fabiano Iha in a lightweight bout at age 26. He was coming in with a record of 13-4-2 (8), and Iha was 30 years old and with a record of 7-3 (7). Uno stopped Fabiano Iha via TKO.
