Steve Collins (36-3, 21) was born in Cabra, Ireland on July 21, 1964. At the age of 22 years on October 24, 1986, he made his professional boxing debut against Julio Mercado, winning the fight via 3rd-round KO.
On his 17th career fight at 25 years old, Steve Collins got a shot at the WBA middleweight titles against Mike McCallum on February 3, 1990 but lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a middleweight world champion (WBO) on May 11, 1994 at the age of 29 years old, on his 31st career fight, after defeating Chris Pyatt via 5th-round TKO.
He then went on to become world champion at the super-middleweight weight class as well, winning the WBO title against Chris Eubank via 12-round unanimous decision on March 18, 1995.
Collins' last fight was a super-middleweight (WBO) world-title defense against Craig Cummings on July 5, 1997. He stopped Cummings via TKO in the 3rd round, successfully defending the title. He retired with a 15-fight winning streak.
