Ricardo López (51-0-1, 38) was born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico on July 25, 1966. At the age of 18 years on January 18, 1985, he made his professional boxing debut against Rogelio Hernandez, winning the fight via 3rd-round KO.

On his 27th career fight at 24 years old, López became a strawweight world champion on October 25, 1990 after defeating Hideyuki Ohashi via 5th-round TKO to win the WBC title.
