Michael Spinks (31-1, 21) was born in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S. on July 22, 1956. At the age of 20 years on April 16, 1977, he made his professional boxing debut against Eddie Benson, winning the fight via 1st-round TKO.

On his 17th career fight at 24 years old, Spinks became a light-heavyweight world champion on July 18, 1981 after defeating Eddie Mustafa Muhammad via 15-round unanimous decision to win the WBA title.
