Michael Spinks (31-1, 21) was born in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S. on July 22, 1956. At the age of 20 years on April 16, 1977, he made his professional boxing debut against Eddie Benson, winning the fight via 1st-round TKO.
On his 17th career fight at 24 years old, Spinks became a light-heavyweight world champion on July 18, 1981 after defeating Eddie Mustafa Muhammad via 15-round unanimous decision to win the WBA title.
He then went on to become world champion at the heavyweight weight class as well, winning the IBF and The Ring titles against Dwight Muhammad Qawi via 15-round unanimous decision on March 18, 1983.
Spinks' last fight was a heavyweight world-title unification fight against Mike Tyson on June 27, 1988. He lost the fight via 1st-round KO and lost the The Ring title. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
