Dingaan Thobela (20-14-1, 13) was born in Soweto, South Africa, South Africa on September 24, 1966. At the age of 23 years on April 27, 1990, he made his professional boxing debut against Mauricio Aceves, winning the fight via 7th-round retirement.
On his 3rd career fight at 23 years old, Thobela became a lightweight world champion on September 22, 1990 after defeating Mauricio Aceves via 12-round split decision to win the WBO title.
He then went on to become world champion at the super-middleweight weight class as well, winning the WBC title against Tony Lopez via 12-round unanimous decision on June 26, 1993.
Thobela's last fight was a 10th-round retirement loss to Soon Botes at age 40 on October 27, 2006. He retired on a 7-fight losing streak.
