Shinji Takehara (24-1, 18) was born in Fuchū, Hiroshima, Japan on January 25, 1972. At the age of 17 years on May 15, 1989, he made his professional boxing debut against Masao Tadano, winning the fight via 4th-round KO.
On his 24th career fight at 23 years old, Takehara became a middleweight world champion on December 19, 1995 after defeating Jorge Castro via 12-round unanimous decision to win the WBA title.
Takehara's last fight was a middleweight (WBA) world-title defense against William Joppy on June 24, 1996. He lost the fight via 9th-round TKO. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
