Masashi Kudo (23-1, 12) was born in Gojōme, Akita, Japan on August 24, 1951. At the age of 21 years on May 18, 1973, he made his professional boxing debut against Toshio Oki, winning the fight via 3rd-round retirement.
On his 20th career fight at 26 years old, Kudo became a super-welterweight world champion on August 9, 1978 after defeating Eddie Gazo via 15-round split decision to win the WBA and The Ring titles.
Kudo's last fight was a super-welterweight (WBA, The Ring) world-title defense against Ayub Kalule on October 24, 1979. He lost the fight via 15th-round unanimous decision. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
