On December 6, 2013 Chris John, the WBA (Super) featherweight champion, met Simpiwe Vetyeka, the IBO featherweight champion, in a title unification fight. John was 34 years old with a record of 48-0-3, and Vetyeka was 32 with a record of 25-2. Vetyeka was on a 2-fight winning streak. Vetyeka stopped John via retirement in the 6th round. Lost the title in unification.
