On September 6, 1997 Yuki Kondo met Jason DeLucia in a null (Pancrase Openweight Championship) title defense fight. Kondo was 22 years old and with a record of 15-4-1 (8), and DeLucia was 28 years old and with a record of 20-10 (15). Kondo stopped Jason DeLucia via 1st-round submission and successfully defended his title.
On April 27, 1997 Yuki Kondo fought Masakatsu Funaki in a null title fight for Funaki's Pancrase Openweight Championship title. Kondo was 21 years old and with a record of 11-3-1 (5), and Funaki was 28 years old and with a record of 28-6 (26). Kondo stopped Masakatsu Funaki via 1st-round submission and is crowned the new Pancrase null champion.
