On February 5, 2006 Ryo Chonan fought Ryuta Sakurai in a middleweight title fight for Sakurai's DEEP Championship title. Chonan was 29 years old and with a record of 11-6 (6), and Sakurai was 34 years old and with a record of 12-10-4 (9). Chonan stopped Ryuta Sakurai via 1st-round TKO and is crowned the new DEEP middleweight champion.
On October 20, 2013 Ryo Chonan fought Dan Hornbuckle in a welterweight title fight for Hornbuckle's DEEP Championship title. Chonan was 37 years old and with a record of 22-13 (9), and Hornbuckle was 32 years old and with a record of 24-6 (20). Chonan won the fight via 3-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new DEEP welterweight champion.
