Matsui was coming off a loss and Kondo was on a 2-fight losing streak. Matsui lost via unanimous decision. Failed to capture the title. Went the distance with Kondo.
2. Daijiro Matsui draws with Sanae Kikuta
On October 11, 1998 Daijiro Matsui faced Sanae Kikuta in a heavyweight bout. Matsui was 25 years old with a record of 0-0-1, and Kikuta was 27 with a record of 7-2. Kikuta was coming off a loss. The fight ended in a unanimous decision.
