On May 18, 2007 Akitoshi Tamura fought Takeshi Inoue for the Shooto lightweight title. It was their second meeting. Tamura was 26 years old with a record of 11-5-2, and Inoue was 27 with a record of 12-11. Tamura was on a 3-fight winning streak and Inoue was on a 2-fight winning streak.
