      José Medel (El Huitlacoche) was a Mexican professional boxer. He was born in Mexico City, Mexico on March 19, 1938. Medel died on January 31, 2001 at the age of 62 years. His professional boxing career spanned more than 19 years — from 1955 to 1974.

      Medel made his professional boxing debut against Heriberto Fuentas at the age of 17 on March 19, 1955, losing to Fuentas via 3rd round KO. He went on to win 4 consecutive fights after this loss, which included 1 wins via stoppage.

      He had his first world title fight at the age of 24 on September 11, 1962 after 73 professional fights, against Éder Jofre for the WBA and The Ring titles. He lost to Jofre via 6th round KO.
