Lionel Rose was born in Labertouche, Victoria, Australia on June 21, 1948. He made his professional debut at the age of 16 years on September 9, 1964 against Mario Magris. Rose defeated Magris via 8 round points decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Rose became a world champion fight at the age of 19 after 29 professional fights. He challenged Fighting Harada for the WBA, WBC, and The Ring bantamweight titles and defeated the champion via 15-round unanimous decision, winning his first world titles. With this win, he also became the undisputed bantamweight world champion — in his very first world-title fight.
Rose's last fight was a 2nd-round KO loss to Maurice Apeang at age 28, on December 18, 1976.
