James J. Braddock (Bulldog of Bergen) was an American professional boxer. He was born in Hell's Kitchen, New York, U.S. on June 7, 1905. He was a heavyweight world champion. He died on November 29, 1974 at the age of 69 years. Braddock was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2001. His professional boxing career spanned more than 11 years — from 1926 to 1938.
Braddock made his professional boxing debut against Al Settle at the age of 20 on April 13, 1926. The fight ended in a draw. He went on to win 11 consecutive fights after this draw, which included 10 wins via stoppage.
He had his first world title fight at the age of 24 on July 18, 1929 after 48 professional fights, against Tommy Loughran for the NYSAC title. He lost to Loughran via 15 round unanimous decision.
