Yoko Gushiken (23-0, 15) was born in Ishigaki, Okinawa, Japan on June 26, 1955. At the age of 18 years on May 28, 1974, he made his professional boxing debut against Koichi Maki, winning the fight via 4-round points decision.
On his 9th career fight at 21 years old, Gushiken became a light-flyweight world champion on October 10, 1976 after defeating Juan Antonio Guzmán via 7th-round KO to win the WBA title.
Gushiken's last fight was a light-flyweight (WBA) world-title defense against Pedro Flores on March 8, 1981. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
