Payakaroon stopped Juan Meza via 12th-round TKO and successfully defended his title.
On January 18, 1986 Samart Payakaroon fought Lupe Pintor in a super-bantamweight world-title fight for the WBC title. Payakaroon was 23 years old and with a record of 12-0 (7), and Pintor was 30 years old and with a record of 54-8-2 (41). Payakaroon stopped Lupe Pintor via 5th-round KO and is crowned the new super-bantamweight world champion.
