On December 31, 2017 Ryoichi Taguchi, the WBA (Unified) champion, met Milan Melindo, the IBF and The Ring champion, in a light-flyweight world-title unification fight. Taguchi was 31 years old and with a record of 27-2-2 (12), and Melindo was 29 years old and with a record of 37-2 (13). Taguchi won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and and is crowned the unified WBA (Unified), IBF and The Ring champion.
On May 6, 2015 Ryoichi Taguchi met Kwanthai Sithmorseng in a light-flyweight (WBA) world-title defense fight. Taguchi was 28 years old and with a record of 22-2-1 (9), and Sithmorseng was 30 years old and with a record of 47-3-1 (25). Taguchi stopped Kwanthai Sithmorseng via 8th-round TKO and successfully defended his title.
