On March 11, 2006 Ruslan Chagaev fought Volodymyr Virchis in a heavyweight world-title fight for Virchis' WBA title. Chagaev was 27 years old and with a record of 20-0-1 (16), and Virchis was 32 years old and with a record of 20-0 (17). Chagaev won the fight via 12-round majority decision and is crowned the new heavyweight world champion.
On April 14, 2007 Ruslan Chagaev fought Nikolai Valuev in a heavyweight world-title fight for Valuev's WBA title. Chagaev was 28 years old and with a record of 23-0-1 (17), and Valuev was 33 years old and with a record of 46-0 (34). Chagaev won the fight via 12-round majority decision and is crowned the new heavyweight world champion.
On July 11, 2015 Ruslan Chagaev met Francesco Pianeta in a heavyweight (WBA (Regular)) world-title defense fight. Chagaev was 36 years old and with a record of 34-2-1 (21), and Pianeta was 30 years old and with a record of 31-1-1 (17). Chagaev stopped Francesco Pianeta via 1st-round TKO and successfully defended his title.
On November 18, 2006 Ruslan Chagaev faced off against John Ruiz at age 28. He was coming in with a record of 22-0-1 (17), and Ruiz was 34 years old and with a record of 41-6-1 (28). Chagaev won the fight via 12-round split decision.
