Román Martínez (30-4-3, 18) was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico on January 31, 1983. At the age of 18 years on December 22, 2001, he made his professional boxing debut against Wilfredo Ramos, winning the fight via 4th-round TKO.
On his 23rd career fight at 26 years old, Martínez became a super-featherweight world champion on March 14, 2009 after defeating Nicky Cook via 4th-round TKO to win the WBO title.
Martínez' last fight was a 2nd-round KO loss to Yuriorkis Gamboa at age 36 on July 27, 2019. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
