Rey Vargas (36-1-1, 22) was born in Otumba, Mexico on November 25, 1990. At the age of 19 years on April 10, 2010, he made his professional boxing debut against Claudio Palacios, winning the fight via 1st-round KO.
On his 29th career fight at 26 years old, Vargas became a super-bantamweight world champion on February 25, 2017 after defeating Gavin McDonnell via 12-round majority decision to win the vacant WBC title.
He then went on to become world champion at the featherweight weight class as well, winning the WBC title against Mark Magsayo via 12-round split decision on July 9, 2022.
Vargas' last fight was a featherweight (WBC) world-title defense against Nick Ball on March 8, 2024. The fight ended in a split decision draw.
