On September 3, 1988 Meldrick Taylor fought Buddy McGirt in a super-lightweight world-title fight for McGirt's IBF title. Taylor was 21 years old and with a record of 20-0-1 (11), and McGirt was 24 years old and with a record of 38-1-1 (33). Taylor stopped Buddy McGirt via 12th-round TKO and is crowned the new super-lightweight world champion.
