Leo Gámez (35-12-1, 26) was born in San Juan de Los Morros, Venezuela on August 8, 1963. At the age of 21 years on February 14, 1985, he made his professional boxing debut against Francisco Garcia, winning the fight via 4-round points decision.
On his 17th career fight at 24 years old, Gámez became a strawweight world champion on January 10, 1988 after defeating Kim Bong-Jun via 12-round unanimous decision to win the vacant WBA title.
He then went on to become world champion at 3 more weight classes, winning the following titles:
Gámez' last fight was a bantamweight world-title fight against Prakorb Udomna for Udomna's WBA title on December 22, 2005. He lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
