On June 4, 2005 Kostya Tszyu met Ricky Hatton in a super-lightweight (IBF, The Ring) world-title defense fight. Tszyu was 35 years old and with a record of 31-2 (25), and Hatton was 26 years old and with a record of 38-0 (28). Tszyu lost the fight via 11th-round retirement and lost the titles.
On May 31, 1997 Kostya Tszyu met Vince Phillips in a super-lightweight (IBF) world-title defense fight. Tszyu was 27 years old and with a record of 18-1 (14), and Phillips was 33 years old and with a record of 35-3 (24). Tszyu lost the fight via 10th-round TKO and lost the title.
