Kal Yafai (27-2, 15) was born in Birmingham, West Midlands, England on June 11, 1989. At the age of 23 years on July 7, 2012, he made his professional boxing debut against Delroy Spencer, winning the fight via 2nd-round retirement.
On his 21st career fight at 27 years old, Yafai became a super-flyweight world champion on December 10, 2016 after defeating Luis Concepción via 12-round unanimous decision to win the vacant WBA title.
Yafai's last fight was a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Jonathan Rodriguez at age 34 on November 18, 2023. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
