On March 23, 2018 Juan Carlos Payano faced off against Mike Plania in a bantamweight bout at age 33. He was coming in with a record of 20-1 (9), and Plania was 21 years old and with a record of 15-0 (7). Payano won the fight via 10-round unanimous decision.
On September 26, 2014 Juan Carlos Payano fought Anselmo Moreno in a bantamweight world-title fight for Moreno's WBA (Undisputed) title. Payano was 30 years old and with a record of 16-0 (8), and Moreno was 29 years old and with a record of 35-2-1 (12). Payano won the fight via 6-round technical decision and is crowned the new bantamweight world champion.
