Rocchigiani won the fight via 12-round split decision and is crowned the new light-heavyweight world champion.
On January 27, 1989 Graciano Rocchigiani met Thulani Malinga in a super-middleweight (IBF) world-title defense fight. Rocchigiani was 25 years old and with a record of 27-0 (13), and Malinga was 33 years old and with a record of 25-3 (12). Rocchigiani won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
