On June 7, 1977 Eddie Gazo met Koichi Wajima in a super-welterweight (WBA and The Ring) world-title defense fight. Gazo was 26 years old and with a record of 32-4-2 (18), and Wajima was 34 years old and with a record of 31-5-1 (25). Gazo stopped Koichi Wajima via 11th-round TKO and successfully defended his titles.
