Donnie Nietes (43-2-6, 23) was born in Murcia, Negros Occidental, Philippines on May 12, 1982. At the age of 20 years on April 25, 2003, he made his professional boxing debut against Walter Suaybaguio, winning the fight via 6-round unanimous decision.
On his 26th career fight at 25 years old, Nietes became a strawweight world champion on September 30, 2007 after defeating Pornsawan Porpramook via 12-round unanimous decision to win the vacant WBO title.
He then went on to become world champion at 3 more weight classes, winning the following titles:
Nietes' last fight was a super-flyweight world-title fight against Kazuto Ioka for Ioka's WBO title on July 13, 2022. He lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
