Carl Thompson (34-6, 25) was born in Manchester, England on May 26, 1964. At the age of 24 years on June 6, 1988, he made his professional boxing debut against Darren McKenna, winning the fight via 2nd-round TKO.
On his 22nd career fight at 31 years old, Carl Thompson got a shot at the WBO cruiserweight titles against Ralf Rocchigiani on June 10, 1995 but lost the fight via 11th-round TKO.
He became a cruiserweight world champion (WBO) on October 4, 1997 at the age of 33 years old, on his 26th career fight, after defeating Ralf Rocchigiani via 12-round split decision.
