Billy Joe Saunders (30-1, 14) was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England on August 30, 1989. At the age of 19 years on February 28, 2009, he made his professional boxing debut against Attila Molnar, winning the fight via 2nd-round TKO.
On his 23rd career fight at 26 years old, Saunders became a middleweight world champion on December 19, 2015 after defeating Andy Lee via 12-round majority decision to win the WBO title.
He then went on to become world champion at the super-middleweight weight class as well, winning the WBO title against Shefat Isufi via 12-round unanimous decision on May 18, 2019.
Saunders' last fight was a super-middleweight world-title unification fight against Canelo Ćlvarez on May 8, 2021. He lost the fight via 8th-round retirement and lost the WBO title. He retired from the sport of boxing following this loss.
