Agapito Sánchez (36-11-3, 18) was born in La Victoria, Dominican Republic on February 14, 1970. At the age of 19 years on November 25, 1989, he made his professional boxing debut against Jose Perez, winning the fight via 1st-round TKO.
On his 24th career fight at 25 years old, Agapito Sánchez got a shot at the WBO super-bantamweight titles against Marco Antonio Barrera on August 22, 1995 but lost the fight via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a super-bantamweight world champion (WBO) on June 23, 2001 at the age of 31 years old, on his 42nd career fight, after defeating Jorge Monsalvo via 7th-round KO.
Sánchez' last fight was a 10-round unanimous decision win against Edison Torres at age 35 on September 17, 2005. He retired with a 3-fight winning streak.
