On April 22, 2017 Zolani Tete fought Arthur Villanueva in a bantamweight world-title fight for Villanueva's WBO title. Tete was 29 years old and with a record of 25-3 (20), and Villanueva was 28 years old and with a record of 30-1 (15). Tete won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and is crowned the new bantamweight world champion.
On April 21, 2018 Zolani Tete met Omar Narváez in a bantamweight (WBO) world-title defense fight. Tete was 30 years old and with a record of 27-3 (21), and Narváez was 42 years old and with a record of 48-2-2 (25). Tete won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
