On August 4, 2017 Nikki Adler defended her WBC female super middleweight title against Claressa Shields. Adler was 30 years old with a record of 16-0, and Shields was 22 with a record of 3-0. Adler was on an undefeated 16-fight winning streak and Shields was on an undefeated 3-fight winning streak. Shields stopped Adler via TKO in the 5th round. Lost the title.
