On December 8, 2012 Miguel Vázquez met Mercito Gesta in a lightweight (IBF) world-title defense fight. Vázquez was 25 years old and with a record of 33-3 (13), and Gesta was 25 years old and with a record of 26-0-1 (14). Vázquez won the fight via 12-round unanimous decision and successfully defended his title.
On July 17, 2009 Miguel Vázquez faced off against Breidis Prescott in a super-lightweight bout at age 22. He was coming in with a record of 25-3 (12), and Prescott was 26 years old and with a record of 21-0 (18). Vázquez won the fight via 10-round split decision.
