On November 24, 2006 Maxwell Awuku fought Lehlo Ledwaba for the WBA Pan African super featherweight title. Awuku was 23 years old with a record of 7-1-1, and Ledwaba was 35 with a record of 36-5-1. Awuku was on a 4-fight winning streak and Ledwaba was coming off a win. Awuku stopped Lehlo Ledwaba via retirement in the 9th round. Crowned the new super featherweight champion.
