On September 21, 1948 Marcel Cerdan fought Tony Zale for the NBA, The Ring, NYSAC, and lineal middleweight titles. Cerdan was 32 years old with a record of 107-3, and Zale was 35 with a record of 67-17-2. Cerdan was coming off a win and Zale was on a 4-fight winning streak. Cerdan stopped Tony Zale via retirement in the 11th round. Crowned the new middleweight champion.
